Your long dark hair like midnight
Let me spend some time with them alone
Put your phone down for a minute
Let me whisper something to you
Diljit starts off by talking about the long tresses of the woman and says he’d like to spend some alone time with her (hair). The woman is probably on her phone so he asks her to put it down, he won’t cut her call, just let him whisper his heart’s desire to her. ↩︎ -
Your dangling earrings kiss your cheeks
Your laughter causes a storm
And my heart is pierced
By the arrows you shoot from your eyes
You’re as fair as the foam
On God’s handmade champagne
Diljit continues describing the woman’s beauty. He says her laughter causes a storm and her eyes shoot arrows that pierce his heart. He says that she is as fair as the champagne foam/froth. As if God hand-crafted a bottle of champagne, she is an absolute joy to behold.
Vocabulary:
• Jhumke (झुमके): Dangling pendants/earrings
• Kehar (केहर): Chaos, ruckus, storm
• Jhagg (झग्ग): Foam or froth on a liquid (Hindi: झाग) ↩︎ -
With a soft clink, it stole my heart
Seems as if you’ve taught your anklet well
I can’t look away from you
You are all over my heart
The soft clinking sound of her anklets catch Diljit’s attention. He can’t even look away from her. He is absolutely spellbound by her.
Vocabulary:
• Rakaan (रकान): A young woman ↩︎ -
Like God’s champagne
Just a rhythmic tie-up with the end of the first verse. ↩︎ -
I saw a photo of you yesterday
Swaying your hips, you with your rosy cheeks
I am falling all over you like pouring alochol
I could barely hold my heart last night
There’s not a woman like you in this city
You have absolute monopoly over being the prettiest here
Again, same idea, new metaphors. ↩︎ -
Oh here she comes, she comes near me
You’ve sparked a conversation now
Our eyes play as our hearts desire
I wish to hold you soft, fair hand
The whole crew now calls me boss
Raj’s rep got a boost within minutes
Now the woman that Diljit’s been eyeing all this time has finally walked up to him. She’s sparked a conversation using some excuse. Their eyes play, they want to hold hands – they are flirting basically. The whole of Diljit’s friend group now calls him boss because he’s ‘pulled’ such a beautiful woman. This has boosted Raj’s (the lyricist, Raj Ranjodh) reputation among his friends. ↩︎
